Physiotherapy
Hands-on, personalised physiotherapy care
Rachel treats a wide range of conditions including sports injuries, back and neck pain, headaches, knee pain, shoulder problems and RSI. She also works with people on post-surgical rehabilitation for orthopaedic conditions such as hip and knee replacements, knee reconstruction surgery and complex fractures.
All sessions are conducted personally by Rachel, offering a completely confidential and caring professional approach to your treatment needs.
Physiotherapy begins with a full one-hour initial assessment. Rachel takes a detailed history of your problem alongside a thorough assessment of your movement and posture as they relate to your injury. Once there is a clear picture of your needs, hands-on treatment begins to help alleviate pain and improve function.
Following the initial assessment, Rachel will discuss whether further treatment is needed. Follow-up sessions are 45 minutes, focusing on reviewing progress and continuing hands-on therapy. Throughout, Rachel enjoys helping you understand the nature of your injury and encouraging you to take an active role in your own recovery.
Please note that home visits are not available — all treatment takes place at the clinic at Duror & Kentallen Community Centre.

Pilates
Online group classes and 1:1 in-person sessions
Rachel is passionate about Pilates and the benefits it can bring to those who take up the challenge! Pilates is a series of exercises — performed on a mat — that work the deep stabilising muscles of the body's core: the deep abdominals, pelvic floor, buttock and shoulder muscles.
Rachel is an APPI-qualified Pilates instructor from the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute, and has been teaching Pilates for 15 years.
The exercises are performed slowly and with attention, helping the body activate the correct muscle groups to support and stabilise it in day-to-day activities. While not a high-intensity cardiovascular workout, Pilates will definitely challenge you — especially as you progress to more advanced levels!
The benefits are wide-ranging: improved posture, reduced incidence of back and neck pain, improved lung function, stress relief and relaxation. For those who play sport, Pilates can improve the efficiency of your movement, helping to enhance performance and reduce the risk of injury. Most importantly — you will always feel great after a session!
Rachel currently teaches a one-hour online Pilates class via Zoom on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am, following school term timetables. You can attend the live class or receive a recording each week to do in your own time — a popular option for those who can't always commit to the live slot. Rachel also offers in-person 1:1 Pilates sessions.

8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Programme
The 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme is a wonderful and practical learning course open to anyone. It teaches us about stress — what it is and how it affects our physical and mental wellbeing — and the ways we react to difficulty in our lives.
Through mindful meditation practices, we learn tools to help navigate the ups and downs of life and experience more balance, clarity and relaxation. No previous experience is needed — just a willingness to be open to new ways of dealing with difficulty and stress, and a desire to explore how we operate.
MBSR is considered the gold standard of mindfulness training. It was developed by Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn, an American medical doctor who wanted to offer his patients more than just medication to manage their conditions. The programme is highly researched and is known to help with stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain.
Rachel has practised meditation for over 25 years and completed her MBSR teacher training through the University of Bangor — a 2-year process, reflecting the high quality of teaching the programme demands and delivers.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture can be a wonderful tool to help reduce pain and discomfort, and promote the body's natural ability to heal itself — many people find it an invaluable part of their overall recovery. Rachel uses acupuncture based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), offering a fully holistic approach to problems within the body. It can be incorporated into physiotherapy or Pilates sessions, or offered as a standalone treatment.
Therapeutic Yoga
Therapeutic yoga is a wonderful way to improve strength, flexibility, movement and fitness of both mind and body — and can be used to address most common musculoskeletal issues including back pain and injury recovery. Rachel has completed her yoga training with the APPI Institute, enabling her to teach yoga poses tailored to specific conditions. She has practised yoga herself for over 25 years and offers this as 1:1 sessions.
Massage
Massage is a therapy Rachel uses regularly, including as part of day-to-day physiotherapy treatments. She holds an ITEC Diploma in Therapeutic Massage and can provide 30 or 60-minute dedicated sports massage sessions.
Women's Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Many women struggle silently with pelvic floor issues such as stress incontinence, urge incontinence, prolapse and bladder problems — but help is available. Rachel has completed the POGP (Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecology Physiotherapists) foundational training in pelvic floor dysfunction, enabling her to assess and treat these conditions. This is an area she has been developing a growing interest in over recent years.
